Client: City of Steinhausen, Switzerland

A 3-meter high timber wall along the site perimeter defines an approximate rectangle. The entrance and service area of the chapel have the same height as the timber wall and remain unseen from outside. The chapel is rotated and the gabled roof exceeds the height of the timber wall. From outside the gabled roof of the chapel is visible but due to its distance to the timber wall and the rotation it remains slightly absent, or part of another world. In the chapel itself there are two large horizontal windows offering side views into an elevated garden. After the ceremony the mourners leave the building through the park towards the graveyard.
