Market, Offices and a Villa
market, offices, villa
Richterswil, Switzerland
2009
Status: competition
Client: Gemeinde Richterswil
Collaborators: Yuu César Barreyre, Giulia Furlan
After we lost this competition, we enhanced its core idea, reformulated it in a general manner and freed it from specific clients needs. Richterswil is a medium sized town in Switzerland. Four ‘everyday’ programmes are piled up on a column and slab system - parking, market, offices and a single-family house. The generic nature of the column/slab system is transformed by punctuation. The perception of the building tosses and turns between the generic and the specific leaving a feeling of a hidden agenda. There are round columns on the supermarket level that change into square columns in the office space. A thicker column that penetrates the entire structure supports the apex of the villa roof. The villa has a secret bedroom one floor below in the office space.
