One Room Hotel
Art Pavillion / Hotel
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
2010-2012
Engineer: Masaru Suzuki Co. Ltd.
Collaborators: Dries Rodet
This pavilion was initially conceived for an exhibition in a favela in Rio de Janeiro. It was then rethought to be built in the old part of Rio, later for Porto, and finally for the Echigo Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art in Japan : The one room hotel sits on a slope. There is a room in which to sit and look outside. There is another room in the roof to rest or sleep. A local person manages the hotel and visitors receive a meal from the host as well as access to a bathroom.
